What BuildBid does

BuildBid is a review-first construction estimating platform. Contractors upload plan sets, specifications, addenda, and supporting files; BuildBid returns a draft estimate with quantities, line items, confidence flags, and scope-gap callouts. The draft is meant to be reviewed and corrected before it becomes a customer-facing number. BuildBid does not claim to replace the estimator — it compresses the blank-sheet work so a human can focus on judgment.

BuildBid is built for general contractors, subcontractors, and preconstruction teams who bid jobs regularly and need a faster first pass that is auditable. It is not a consumer cost calculator, a generic document summarizer, or a fully autonomous bidding agent.

Founder and company

BuildBid is an independent software product actively developed by a small team. The product exists because estimating teams lose hours rebuilding context from scattered PDFs, photos, and notes before the actual bid work begins. BuildBid is not a theatrical agent-network demo; it is estimating software for real bid workflows: intake, first-pass structure, review, revision, and handoff. Security and data use

BuildBid uses authenticated user sessions for product access and routes uploads through application APIs and cloud storage. Billing flows use Stripe; BuildBid does not present itself as a direct card vault. The /security page is intentionally conservative and describes current patterns rather than aspirational certifications. Procurement teams requiring formal attestations should request current evidence directly.

Known limitations

BuildBid is deliberate about what it does not yet do well. Honest limits help estimators decide where the draft is trustworthy and where manual review is non-negotiable.

• Complex MEP scopes often require estimator adjustment
• HVAC edge cases are not fully covered by the default pipeline
• Civil edge cases (non-standard earthwork, complex utility webs) may need overrides
• Handwritten markups and scanned redlines are inconsistent inputs
• Spec-heavy scopes where the spec book drives quantities more than the plans still benefit from manual cross-check
• BuildBid surfaces confidence flags — it does not silently guess past them
